Complications

I was so excited about being done with this pregnancy a month early and having a healthy baby to show for it. I guess I'm not really that lucky. Sunday I was having quite a bit of pain so we went in to the same-day care. 5 1/2 hours later after several tests and ultrasounds I was told I have some "retained products of conception". That could be a piece of placenta, or membranes, or blood clots. I had to go in again Monday to see if my OB wanted to do a D and C. He said he prefers to take a watch and wait approach. So now I am hoping that I don't get any heavy bleeding or signs of infection, in which case I would still have to have a D and C. So far it has just been some pain, but it is getting frustrating that I am not recovering as quickly as I want to. I just keep telling myself that at least it's me dealing with complications and not Eli. He is doing great! Eating well, sleeping lots, and pooping all over us!

Eli is already here!

Whew! What a whirlwind! Friday morning just before 1 am my water broke. I had been hoping and expecting that we would be having a baby before August 11th, but I wasn't quite ready for it to be that early. We quickly got the boys up threw a few things in a bag and called a friend to meet us at the gas station to take Pason and Carter (Thank you SO MUCH Kimberly!) We got settled in at the hospital and I was dialated to 2.5 and was having some mild contractions. That quickly changed and I was very anxious for the anesthesiologist to hurry up with the 2 epidurals ahead of me. Finally got mine at 4. By 5:30ish I was 5.5 cm dialated and starting to feel contractions on my right side again, so the anesthesiologist came back to tweak things. About the time he got done I told the nurse that I could feel something. She checked me and I will never forget the look on her face. She said "she's complete". Nurses started rushing around and they were trying unsuccesfully to reach my doctor. Luckily the anesthesiologist saw him in the hall and he made it just in time to throw on a gown and gloves and catch the baby. The nurse told me later that she was kinda of worried because they should have had NICU and respiritory in there too ( Iguess they all came in later, but I noticed). Everything happened so fast. No joke I didn't even have to push. I just remember hearing him cry and being so relieved to hear a loud, strong cry. Our baby boy was born at 7:15 am on July 10th. He weighed 6 lbs 6 oz and was 18 1/2" long. He was 4 1/2 weeks early, but had no problems. He didn't even have to spend time in the warmer like my other boys did. I think the hardest part of the whole day was settling on his name. We finally decided on Eli Jared Gage just before we went to bed that night. We got to come home from the hospital Sunday and my only complaint is that he doesn't like to wake up to eat. We are so happy he is here and is doing so well. We love our little ELI!
